Blog Assingment #14: Media

Media Crossing the Line:5 Paragraph Essay

What is media? Media is a section of news specially designed to reach a large audience. Some times media is taken to the wrong level. People say its just for "entertainment", but sometimes it's the wrong kind of entertainment. This so called entertainment gives out celebrities personal information. Some times people need to mind their own business. They are willing to hurt someone feelings and expose them in a cruel way, just to get paid.

An example of media crossing the line would be the Fantasia story. The publishers are putting out that she is going to be sued for stealing a woman's husband. Also, that she took an overdose and tried to commit suicide. Even though she admitted to trying to commit suicide, it that any one's business? it sure isn't. People has it out that she tried to commit suicide even before she had the interview and admitted it. She said, " I was so depressed by all the drama." Other people have twisted the story around.

Second story, Braylon Edwards is out of jail "FOR NOW." He has been released from custody following his DWI in NY. Braylon faces two misdemeanor counts of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated and one misdemeanor count of operating a motor vehicle while impaired. This no one's business why he was in jail or his charges. It may be embarrassing to him. They should not try to put down on celebrities, because they have a career and a name to live with. If someone says things about them, they have to live with that for the rest of their life. The whole U.S. will think of his as a bad person, despite everything else.

Too much, is getting into people's personal business. Exposing them, when they don't want to. To me privacy is very important, but to the publishers and press; they don't really care about privacy. Media outlets are very accountable for their actions, if they didn't want something to get out, they shouldn't release it to the public. They are people that follow celebrities around and spy on them; most celebrities want their events to be private. Privacy is not respected in media. Sometimes they tell lies. People do interviews to clarify what is happening, so people can't make up stories.  Yes, I would say we live in a media-frenzied world. Every time you turn on the news, it's always something about some one's personal information. Sometimes when people broadcast their business, they feel embarrassed; because everyone knows them, because they are a celebrity.

In conclusion, soem media isn't wrong. When the media starts to get into people's personal information, it gets bad. If they wanted everyone to know their information, they will get on TV and tell you. It's not for a publisher to follow them around ans spy to get information. That is very desperate for money. Media is a job, but I would not get that kind of job. It's not all bad, but I sometimes is.

Blog Assignment #12-M.Antoinette

Marie Antoinette

Marie Antoinette was born on November 2, 1755 and died October 16,1793. She was the Queen of France during the French Revolution. She really did not do anything, but she was spouse of Louis XVI Marie, she was Queen of France, and she was the last Queen of France. She got married when she was fourteen years old. After her husband’s death, in July 1793, Marie Antoinette’s son was forcibly taken from her. In September 1793, Marie Antoinette was separated from her daughter and sister in law.

People know her as the women who heard that the peasants were starving because they had no bread, then she said "let them eat cake."  You can say Marie was unpopular as a queen because  her activities drew criticism and helped foment the dissatisfaction of the people, and that dissatisfaction brought about the French Revolution. People were jealous of her becasue she married King Louis. August 10, 1792, militants attacked the royal palace where Marie Antoinette and her family were being held and forced the Legislative Assembly to "suspend" the King.  September 20, the new National Convention  was convened, and two days later it voted to declare France a republic. From that moment on, Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette were no longer King and Queen, but, like many others, imprisoned citizens suspected of treason.

On October 14, she was awoken at night and she faced the Revolutionary Tribunal. The crowd saw an old hag rougly sheared her, with Marie's hands tied tight behind her back, while she rode in a garbage cart. Marie sat straight up with dignity. Marie  was pushed on to the guillotine plank, her head placed in the vice and at noon the blade fell to loud cheers all around. The body of Marie Antoinette was left on the grass before being dumped in an unmarked grave

Assingment #10-G.Muller

                                              George Muller

He was a Christian evangelist and Director of the Ashley Down orphanage in Bristol, England. He was a provider of education to the children under his care. To the where he was accused of raising the poor above their natural station in life. George also established 117 schools that offered Christian education to over 120,000 children, many of them being where orphans. He is well known for providing an education to the children under his care.

He did a 17 year period of mimssionary, starting March 26, 1875-August 8, 1890. He is famous for starting oprhanages and doing missionaries. The orphanage began in 1936 with preparation of his and his wife's own house, with an accommodation of 30 girls. Soon after, three more houses in Wilson Street were furnished, growing the total of children cared for to 130. 1845, as growth continued, Müller decided that a separate building designed to house 300 children was necessary, and in 1849, at Ashley Down, Bristol, that home opened.

My thoughts on his life were, he had a good Christiam life. He really cared for the orphans even though the weren't his children. He even let 30 orphan gilrs live in his home. Some of his quotes are: The less we read the Word of God, the less we desire to read it, and the less we pray, the less we desire to pray.I hope in God, I pray on, and look yet for the answer. They are not converted yet, but they will be."

Muller's life had prayer.

Muller's life had orphans in it.

Muller's life had missionaries.

Muller's life involved the Bible.

Muller's life involved God.

Blog Assingment #9- Maya Angelou

Dr. Maya Angelou is one of the most famous and affecting voices of this time. She is a celebrated poet, memorist, novelist, education, dramatist, producer, actress, historian, filmmaker, and civil rights activist. Dr. Angelou was born on April 4th, 1928 in St.Louis, Missouri. She was raised in St. Louis and Stamps, Arkansas. In Stamps, she experienced crucial treatment of racial discrimination, but took in the steady faith and values of the usual African-American family, community, and culture.

When she was a teen, her love for the arts got her a scholarship to study dance and drama at San Francisco's labor School. Dr. Angelou dropped out at the age of 14, to become San Francisco's first African-American female cable car conductor. Then later she finished high school. She gave birth to her son, Guy, a few weeks after graduation. Maya supported her son by working as a waitress and cook, but her passion for music, dance, performance, and poetry would soon take her center stage.

In1954 and 1955, she toured Europe with a production of opera. Maya studied modern dance with Martha Graham and danced with Alvin Ailey on TV shows. In 1957, Maya Angelou recorded her first album Calypso Cady. Then in 1958, she moved to New York and joined the Harlem Writers Guild. She acted in The Blacks and wrote and performed Cabaret for Freedom.

1960, Dr. Angelou moved to Cairo, Egypt where she served as editor of the English language weekly The Arab Observer. The folowing year, she moved to Ghana and worked at the University of Ghana's School of Music and Drama, worked as feature editor for The African Review and wrote for The Ghanaian Times. During that time, Dr. Angelou read and studied voraciously, mastering French, Spanish, Italian, Arabic and the West African language Fanti. While in Ghana, she met with Malcolm X and, in 1964, returned to America to help him build his new Organization of African American Unity. Shortly after her arrival in the United States, Malcolm X was assassinated, and the organization dissolved. Soon after X's assassination, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. asked Dr. Angelou to serve as Northern Coordinator for the Southern Christian Leadership Conference.

Dr. Angelou has served on two presidential committees, was awarded the Presidential Medal of Arts in 2000, the Lincoln Medal in 2008, and has received 3 Grammy Awards. President Clinton requested that she compose a poem to read at his inauguration in 1993. Dr. Angelou's reading of her poem "On the Pulse of the Morning" was broadcast live around the world. Dr. Angelou has received over 30 honorary degrees and is Reynolds Professor of American Studies at Wake Forest University. Dr. Angelou’s words and actions continue to stir our souls, energize our bodies, liberate our minds, and heal our hearts.

#2: Publishers Express Concern over Government Mandates on Journal Articles

In Washington, DC, July 29, 2010: The AAP warned that government mandates requiring free access to journal articles published by the private sector would undermine scientific communication, also, jobs, exports and copyright protection.
Policies that require publishers’ work to be made freely available online enable foreign governments, corporations and others to use U.S. publishers’ output without compensation. The subscription revenues that pay the cost of scientific publishing are seriously compromised when articles are available free on a government website. Mandates diminish the copyright protection that allows publishers to invest in publishing.
